Prominent veins are fairly common around the eyes and face and many people are bothered by their appearance. Many people develop these prominent veins during the aging process although some are hereditary.

What Is Sclerotherapy?

Similar to varicose veins in the legs, there are two main treatment options for these prominent, ugly periocular veins, namely surgery and sclerotherapy. Each has its advantages and disadvantages. In sclerotherapy, a sclerosing (clothing) agent is injected directly into the vein. This procedure is done in office and requires no anesthesia, with no downtime, although bruising is still possible. It is important for this procedure to be performed by someone with experience and good understanding of the anatomy of vessels around the eyes.
